Hooray! "Big White"

HALO FOR BIG WHITE - Fundraising success!
Thirty-one friends in the Sailing School family have stepped in during these thirty days, with donations of $2,725 which beats the $2,500 goal.  Two of the donors even contributed a second time when it appeared the total wouldn't be enough.  Several of the donations are coming from volunteers, as well as some contributions sent from "first time" donors. And some donations are still arriving.

This is "awesome" smiled the ESS President and youth-program parent George Shuster.  And it shows "the strength of the ESS family when we hoist the sails together! " as another donor wrote.

We're so glad that Big White has such good friends out there, who could help us reach this important goal to take care of the engine repair.

The Board has authorized the repair, so Big White will be back in service for 2014, thanks to YOU!

THE THIRD ANNUAL UP FROM THE ASHES - - The Sailing School and the Edgewood Yacht Club jointly sponsor winter racing for the "Edgewood Frozen Few."  This weekend COMMEMORATES the Sunday three years ago when the Rhode Island sailing community actually lifted those Edgewood FrozenFew up from the ashes of the burned-out Clubhouse.  With borrowed boats from Narragansett Bay area SunFish sailors, with publicity in some fine TV coverage on NBC Channel 10, and with intense encouragement, including generous help from Port Edgewood, from West Marine and from Laser Performance, the FrozenFew kicked off the dust and put their SunFish back to racing, in time for the "usual" 11am first gun that Sunday.

Now in 2014 a dozen skippers of the "Frozen Few" are still at it: racing every Sunday morning from late October through early March.

This weekend's Sunfish "Up from the Ashes"  regatta is supported by skippers, well-wishers and families of the Frozen Few, along with an unusual array of prizes contributed by local well-knowns including Intensity Sails, Laser Performance, New England Action Sports, Sun Space Energy, West Marine and Zim Sailing.    Room for visitors and cheering families.  Racing starts at 11am.  Awards, etc., in the Cottage about 1:30pm. All welcome. (This is an open racing event, described in EYC/ESS NOR and SI.)
