future edgewood Sailors meet their first Opti - at the Zoo

For a second year, an Edgewood Opti "sailed" among the Roger Williams zoo flamingos - - watched by 6500 visitors a day.

The Sailing School joined other community "outdoors" programs showing our stuff during the Zoo's "Earth Day - Party for the Planet" extravaganza.    Jill Austin, Roger Williams Zoo events manager, said gate attendance for the two days we were there was 6,880 and 6,010 people per day.

Sailing School volunteers showed off an Opti (on the ground, otherwise full rigged) to many future sailors and their parents.   A dozen families each day filled out "information-please" cards and have joined our "ESS Family" getting information and - - quite a few - - signing up for adult and youth programs this summer.

Parents, instructors, kids were all there. It was a great place to meet some of the people invovled in the program, and to shake and wake up for Spring Sailing.
