Sailing in the Wild and Wild Sailing...

Instructors let the Edgewood Yacht Club staff know that the Tuesday/Thursday evening class for Intermediate Boat Handling might look a little strange out on the water, but not to be too concerned. Two boats were learning skills to sail backwards across the bay, practicing jib only tacking, and sailing in controlled circles without the use of the rudder. It might look peculiar, but it also is useful practice for docking, and for understanding how each part of the boat contributes to proper sailing.

For the first evening of practice sailing on Friday evening, the wind was a brisk 10-15kts. Three sailors decided to share one boat to better "balance the boat." Under those conditions, they decided "the more the merrier!" Recreational sailing is now running Friday at 5:30pm and Sundays at 1:30 for the rest of the season. Additional sessions Saturday will be added beginning the 25th of May, the first Picnic Bay Sail of the season.
