News from last summer:
July 26 - EDGEWOOD TEAM RACING - Optis and c420s
The Optis and 420 Teams traveled again to East Greenwich 7/26. During the day, although the Opti Team kept up a strong presence in their own matches, the main sailing action centered on the Edgewood 420 sailors who won a series of outstanding 1-2 or 1-3 finishes in one match after another. All strong boats of Edgewood's 2007 c420 team working together: Adam/Kirk, Dylan/Eliza, Henry/Charlie and Nate/Eric. Their starts getting stronger as the day went along, the 420 team frequently dominated in the matches, highlighting tactics, knowledge of the rules, and competitive fitness. So far only the A-team from GBSA has managed to escape us; not so lucky have been Saunderstown, Sakonnet, and Bristol, and a tie against the GBSA B-team. Next Thursday is the third of the qualifying team-racing events. The 420 team continues strong, and is looking for strong action in the Finals during Race Week.
July 24 - CLUB 420 REGATTA
Assistant Instructors Adam Coogan & Paige Baeder ranked in the middle of the intense Division 1 fleet, with Henry Spalding & Charlie Plumb turning in a similar performance in the Division 2 fleet, along with action by Nate Stiener & Eric Evje.
July 24 - LASER REGATTA
Edgewood laser sailors were led by ESS alumnus Ted Green's second-place (full-rig) and Jessica Clafflin's second-place (radial), with new skippers Kirk Nash and Dylan Swen in the action.

YOUTH CRUISING & STARTER SAILING STB - A Great Way to Learn Sailing
Edgewood's two special sailing camp offerings - "Starter Sailor" with Save The Bay, and "Youth Cruising" for older youths, have just completed their run for the summer with 20 students in Starter and dozen in Youth Cruising. David Tingle, ESS Head Instructor, reports both programs really brought sailing into the living room for the new sailors. From never having sailed, the younger sailors in "Starter" and the older in Youth Cruising found that after only a short 2-week class, they had mastered a lot of tricks, enjoyed the Rhodes19 keel-boats, and pretty much found they were very, very, ready for more sailing. Congratulations all around.
July 31 - INSTRUCTORS BUSY SORTING OUT LISTS FOR AWARDS
Another three weeks and it's time for Awards. The annual job of evaluations, congratulations, and awards has begun, with instructors preparing for the big Sailing School Awards Dinner Friday August 17th. Mark calendars, and stand by for what you can bring to the Sailing School's pot-luck, high-energy evening!
July 19 - CLUB 420 and OPTI racing teams start TEAM RACING for repeat of 2006 winnings.
Only 4 just days after starting into heavy-duty training, the c420 sailors are on the road to sail at East Greenwich planning to re-establish their dominance of NBYA Jr c420 team-racing. Edgewood neighbors around the Sailing School have been seen the team sailing, of course, but also have met them at mid-day, jogging on the Boulevard for long-distance running and conditioning, all as this year's sailors get themselves into shape for fast-moving tactical team racing that starts a weekly series this week. Likewise, this year's Sailing School Opti Racing Team is ready to roll, and all Sailors are looking forward to success, led by some of top sailors from area high-school sailing who are long-time Edgewood Sailing School skippers.
July 10 - OPTI SAILORS score well in first Summer Regatta .
Nine boats and racing skippers from Edgewood joined in a fleet of 90 Opti sailors from around the Bay to face tricky sailing around Newport's Ida Lewis Yacht Club, and strong winds out on the race course. Returning skipper Nick Benz led the ESS sailors, scoring 6th in 41-boat beginner Green Fleet, with Veronica Sedivy and Nina Franzen scoring in the top third, and strong sailing by Nick Aubin, Sarah Hoxsie, Sylvia Skerry, Aaron Hertzer and Leland Rege-Colt. Edgewood Skipper Natalie Franzen, represented the Sailing School in her more advanced "Blue" Fleet, with good solid sailing in tough conditions.
